Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Brine Processing Flexibility:
- Key technical flexibility lead from energy as part of the customer delivery program reporting.
- Advise proponents on thermal vs electrical substitution/complementary opportunities to minimize overall project energy cost and power grid impact.
- Identify and maximise opportunities for thermoelectrical efficiency as well as operational process flexibilities to be incorporated in brine complex design.
Green Stell and Mining Flexibility:
- Identify, evaluate and recommend technical asset investments ENOWA can make in addition to proponent base case assumptions to increase energy (thermal and electrical) flexibility.
- Support TSO, DSO and grid planning teams to understand operational processes and power grid impact risk and opportunities.
Oxagon Manufacturing Cluster Flexibility:
- Advise power modelling and portfolio management teams on the techno-economic characteristics of all identified flexibility options.
- Lead reviewer and content provider for all technical process flexibility specification of RFP, RFQ, SoW and FEED documents (proposals, feasibility, planning, etc.) to enable delivery of energy flexibility.
- Assess and recommend opportunities for innovative technology adoption under the principles of flexibility, sustainability and circularity.
- Technical input in the establishment of and compliance with relevant regulations, codes and standards to support process engineering solutions.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Technical skills:
- In-depth understanding of the fundamental principles of:
- Chemical and thermal processes and design.
- Industrial, mechanical, and electrical processes and design.
- Thermodynamics and HVAC system processes and design.
- Batch processing and advanced manufacturing techniques.
- Water pumping, desalination and brine processing technologies.
- Steel and iron ore mining processes, engineering and design.
- Thorough understanding and exposure to power systems:
- Congestion and constraint management.
- Voltage and Reactive power management.
- Frequency management.
- Reserve margin.
- System stability and inertia.
- Proficient in:
- Energy storage systems (thermal and electrical).
- Long term network planning and regulatory best practices.
- Power systems engineering and microgrid technologies.
Knowledge and Experience:
Required:
- Knowledge and understanding of conventional and emerging steel manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge and understanding of conventional and emerging seawater desalination and brine processing technologies. Eg RO, MVR, MED, solar ponds and mineral extraction processes among others.
- Awareness of relevant international codes and standards.
- Ability to leverage process engineering software tools (HYSYS, VERTEX, MySep, Olga, AFT Impulse,) to analyse complex problems and deliver solutions.
- Experience with Programmable Logic Units (PLUs) to implement flexible industrial automation.
- Experience of the application of HAZOP, HAZID and SIL Rating to process design.
- Experience with Concept Selection and FEED studies.
- Understanding of the costs/benefit tradeoffs and techno-economic assessment of industrial process engineering.
- 15+ years’ experience working in a process engineering capacity at any or most of the following industries: chemical, steel, refinery, food processing and large multinational manufacturing or engineering consulting company.
Preferred:
- Good understanding of decentralized energy technologies and other energy efficiency technologies and their potential commercialization in power markets.
- Familiarity with the energy transition and opportunities for power grid transformations.
- Previous experience of working in the Middle East and more specifically Saudi Arabia.

- Ability to bring innovative ideas from inception to actual implementation through clear value propositions and roadmaps.

- Ability to operate in a team-oriented and collaborative environment and flexible and resilient to changes due to the greenfield nature of the projects.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholder needs and distill complexity to build consensus within a matrix organisation.
- Ability to operate in ambiguity and resilience to a dynamic fast changing environment.
Qualifications:
Preferred:
- PhD in a chemical or process engineering field.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status.
Required:
- BEng, MEng / BSc, MSc in Chemical Engineering or related engineering subject.
- Proven track record of process optimisation including references.
- Membership of a recognised professional institute.
